Gas leakage from bullet tanker near Suratkal; timely action averts danger

Mangaluru, Mar 31,2017: A gas leakage from a bullet tanker stationed in front of the HPCL plant at Bala village near Suratkal on Thursday evening  though caused anxiety, the same was plugged due to the timely action of all authorities concerned.

At around 7.15, drivers sensed there was a gas leakage from one of the tankers stationed in the area  and immediately informed the police who in turn passed on the message to  MRPL and HPCL gas units. As the quick response vehicle of HPCL was away   in Goa, empty tankers from the Total  gas plant  were brought to the venue and the gas from leaking tanker shfited

In the meantime, as a precautionary measure, electricity connection was cut off and public were asked to switch off their mobile phones. Nearby resident s were also asked not to light any fire.

The tanker that suffered gas leakage on Thursday had 18 tonnes of gas. Not just that, nearby it there were 13 gas laden tankers and  the consequences in the event of a mishap was unimaginable

Five  fire tender vehicles were part of the relief operation which continued till late night.
