Gas leakage afterLPG tanker overturns at Soorikumeru, residents evacuated

Bantwal, Apr 19, 2016:   Residents of as many as 50 houses  at Soorikumeru near Kalladka were evacuated and  the National Highway 75 was blocked after a fully loaded LPG tanker  which was reportedly overspeeding, tumbled on the roadside   at around 1 am on April 19, Tuesday. The tanker which was loaded with LPG at MRPL was heading  towards Bengaluru when the mishap tookplace.

It is learnt, gas had started leaking from the tanker soon after the  mishap creating  panic among locals who immediately informed the loal police station and fire brigade. The Police and fire service personnel who rushed to the spot,  began to repeatedly  spray  water to the  nozzle of the gas tanker which was separated from the front portion of the vehicle, in order to check the leakage..

If some of the nearby residents left the place on their own fearing danger, some others were evacuated by the authorities to safer places.

Fire tender vehicles from seven stations including Puttur, Belthangady, Kadri and Pandeshwar had rushed to the spot.

The police blocked the traffic on the route. Vehicle heading towards Puttur from Mangaluru were sent on the Veerakambha-Anantady, Kodaje route, while   vehicles proceeding towards Mangaluru were diverted through Vittal route.

 Rural Station House Officer  Rakshith, Vittal station house officer Devadiga and other police officials are camping at the spot.
