Gas Tanker collides with passenger vehicle at Shiradi - 3 killed, 14 injured

Shiradi Ghat, June 3, 2014: According to reports from various sources and the police, 3 pilgrims, including a 1 year 6 month old child, were killed and at least 14 others suffered injuries when a cruiser vehicle in which they were travelling collided head on with a tanker, at Addahole in Shiradi near Uppinangady on June 2.

Police have said , the deceased are Shwetha (26), wife of Manjunath, a resident of Naganoor in Davangere, her one-and-half year-old child Ganesh and driver Thippesh (30). The injured are Manjunath (38), his mother Lalithamma (50), Latha (30), Karibasavayya (45), Darshan (13), Madhu (11), Veena (36), Reshma (12), Jagadeesh (10), Annapoorna (30), Chandan (6), Shivu (5), Meghana (3), and Manavanth (25).

The Manjunath’s family had paid a visit to Dharmasthala and were bound to Udupi after visiting Subramanya temple when the accident occurred. The cruiser is in a mangled state and the police had a struggle to extricate the bodies and injured.  A case has been registered at Puttur traffic police station.
