Gang of lady thieves trapped by public in Sauthadka Temple

Puttur, Feb 25, 2015 : A gang of women thieves were trapped by locals near the  Sauthadka Shree Mahaganapathi Temple near Nelyady on February 25, Tuesday. It has been gathered that the lady thieves who hailed from Yadgir district were wanted in connection with several chain snatching and pick-pocketing cases in the area.


thievesIn all seven women, and a man were later handed over to the Uppinangady police. Those who have been arrested have been identified as Geetha, Sakamma, Kamalavva,Dyamavva, Yamunavva, , Ratna, Uma, and Erappa. There was even a small child with one of the accused women.


The temple staff who saw the eight arrive by the vehicle,  had kept a watch on their suspicious  movements and one of them who had tried to snatch the chain of a woman pilgrim who was standing in a queue near the temple counter was caught hold of with the help of other devotees. The rest were soon trapped. However, the driver of their vehicle took to the heels.

Sources said the same gang was responsible for pick-pocketing in the temple once in the past.

Though the Nelyady police were first informed, on gathering information that all cops were on some other duty, the Uppinangady police arrived at the spot and took custody of the thieves. A case has been filed  based on the complaint by K Krishna Bhat, Temple Committee President.
