The book’s author, P A  Nazareth explained to the audience his ambitious choice of calling Gandhi a “soul force warrior” while comparing the bloody revolutions which have taken place around the world.

“Gandhi was able to answer the oppressor (the British) with his simple, yet original and powerful techniques of truth and non-violence which relied on spirituality for which the British had no answer. Gandhi revolutionised the concept of ‘revolution’ and spiritualised it,” Nazareth said.

Karnataka Circle Chief Postmaster General Dr Charles Lobo recommended the book to students, peace lovers as an answer to the uneasy phase that modern India faces.

Aloysius Institutions Rector Rev Dionysius Vaz, in his presidential address, appreciated the works of Nazareth.

Rev Vaz drew the attention of the audience to remember Gandhi’s Talisman, “Whenever you are in doubt or when the self becomes too much with you, apply the following test. Recall the face of the poorest and the weakest person  man or woman, whom you may have seen and ask yourself, if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to him/her. Will he/she gain anything by it? Will it restore him/her to a control over his/her own life and destiny? In other words, will it lead to Swaraj (freedom) for the hungry and spiritually starving millions? Then, you will find answers to your doubts and yourself melt away.”

College Principal Fr Praveen Martis was also present.
