Mangaluru, Oct 2, 2016: Gandhi Jayanthi was celebrated in the city on October 2, Sunday on behalf of the Bharath Seva Dal, Information and Publicity Department and Department of Public Instructions. Mangaluru Police Commissioner M Chandra Sekhar paid tributes to the Mahatma by garlanding his statue  near the Town Hall.

Speaking on  the occasion, the Commissioner said it was the  duty  and responsibility of each and every citizen of  the land to protect the hard earned problem by maintaining peace and harmony.

Veteran freedom fighter K P Madan Master was felicitated on the occasion.

District Superintendent of Police Bhushan Gulabrao Borase,  Additional DC Kumar,  District Kannada Sahitya Parishat President Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, MCC Commissioner  Mohammad Nazir,  Seva Dal District President Basheer K and others were present.

Earlier, Seva Dal students took out a procession from  Ambedkar Circle to the  venue of the function.

Gandhi Jayanthi was celebrated on behalf of the DK District Congress Committee on October 2, Sunday. Ivan D’Souza, MLC and Chief Whip of the State Legislative Council, Harinath, city Mayor,  Ibrahim Kodijal, Interim President of District Congress,  Shashidhar Hegde, former mayor and other party leaders garlanded the portrait of Mahatma Gandhi on the occasion.
