GSB Mahila Shakha celebrates its 60th Anniversary in Mumbai

Mangaluru, Mar 06, 2017: It is reported that Mangalorean groups were prominent at the Gowda Saraswat Brahmins’ (GSB) Mahila Shakha celebrated it’s  grand  Diamond jubilee on February 26 at Dadar’s IES Raja Shivaji Vidyalaya(formerly known as King George School).

The glamorous nonstop folk dances of India by Nupur, Sandhya Salian Kamath’s academy gave a rousing start. This was followed by a hilarious Konkani drama by Vsisters, the six year old all woman group from Navi Mumbai who was specially invited by the Mahila Shakha to perform ‘Bhashe gondolu’ (language Confusion) a play on the different dialects of Konkani spoken in Mangalore, Goa, North Canara and Kochi.

Savitha Nayak, Sudha Kamath, Shobha Mallya, Sheela Kamath and Kala Kamath performed superbly in front of the six hundred strong audience and received a thunderous applause. Savitha Joshy introduced the drama and the participants. GSB Mahila Shakha President Durga Shenoy honoured the actors.

The formal function was inaugurated by Uma Suresh Prabhu, well known journalist and wife of Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu. She felicitated five Women of Substance- DSP Anupama Shenoy, spiritual guide Bhavana Bhaskar Prabhu, journalist and author Veena Mohan Adige, prominent social worker Gita Ranga Pai, and Dean of Nair and KEM Hospitals Dr Pragna Pai. GSB President Uday Malya and Mahila Shakha President Durga Shenoy also felicitated the ladies. A souvenir was released on the occasion.

The GSB Woman Entrepreneur award went to Dr Shobha Kamath, Chief Officer at ROOTS EMG Advisory while the GSB Talent Recognition Awardee was Sudhir Nayak. The Past Presidents of GSB Mahila Shakha were remembered and honoured. Prema Kuloor came physically to receive the honour while the children of Meenakshi Bhandarkar and Vatsala Shenoy accepted on their behalf. Sudha Kini and Sanjivi Bhat are the other past presidents of the shakha. Bina Shenoy and Amita Kini, the Joint secretaries compered the program along with Seema Pai, Tanushree Shenoy and Laxmikant Prabhu.
