Bengaluru, July 18, 2017: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has transferred State Intelligence chief M.N. Reddi in less than four months since he took charge.

MN reddi 1Sources said that Mr. Siddaramaiah on Sunday expressed his dissatisfaction and took both Mr. Reddi and Kempaiah, adviser to Home Minister, to task for failing to contain recent events that were proving to be an embarrassment to the government.

Sources said the Chief Minister was particularly upset over the mishandling of the law and order situation in Dakshina Kannada district, where the BJP has been capitalising on the murder of one of their workers Sharath Madiwala.

The growing criticism of the Home Department, presently held by the Chief Minister himself, even from within the government and liberal circles led to the transfer, sources said.

However, no officials from the Western Range, under which Dakshina Kannada district falls, have been transferred. Dakshina Kannada district Superintendent of Police Bhushan Gulabrao Borase was recently transferred after a video clip of Minister Ramanath Rai’s conversation with the officer, asking him to arrest a senior RSS leader, went viral.

Mr. Reddi has been posted as the chief of Anti-Corruption Bureau, a post vacated by N.S. Megharikh who has been transferred to head the Prisons Department. Amrit Paul, presently IGP, State Intelligence, has been given the additional charge of DGP Intelligence for now.
