Mangaluru, July 16, 2016: Addressing media, Executive Director of Pilikula Zoological Park Jayaprakash Bhandary said, the annual two day jackruit mela at Pilikula Urban Haat will be held on July 16 and 17. On quote, "as many as 50 stalls will be set up for the exhibition cum sale of varieties of jackfruit and its products." "To attract more to the mela, colleges have been requested to send their students, especially those from botany and zoology." He said that to help visitors, two free mini buses have been arranged to ferry them from Vamanjur to Pilikula on both the days.


Free bus service to jackfruit mela at PilikulaIt expected that the stalls will include HOPCOMS, Horticulture Produce Cooperative Marketing Society, Halasu Snehi Koota, Ubar, Choutara Thota, Meeyapadavu, Ankur Nursery, Ripponpet, Kadamba Market, Sirsi, Thoobugere Halasu Belegarara Sangha, Kaje Vrukshalaya, Manchi, Parivarthana Sangha, Sakharayapattana, Jack Anil Nursery, Ninnikal, Krishi Mitra Nursery, Puttur, Varanasi Research Foundation Deshi Uttana Associates, Jack Kerala and self-help groups among others.

Bhandary said that a lecture on ’Swathi’ rain by Thyathya Gowda Malagowdanavar from Belagavi has been arranged. He also informed that conservation expert Shree Padre will speak on rainwater harvesting methods.

"’Chandra Halasu’ one among several varieties of jackfruit, grown especially in Thoobugere of Bengaluru rural district will be the special attraction," said Madaga.

Madaga also announced that considering the increasing number of jackfruit growers in the district, the Dakshina Kannada Jackfruit Growers Association will also be launched during the mela.
