Fraud cheating get north Indian duo in police net

Mangaluru, June 12, 2017: The Ullal Police have arrested two persons from Delhi who allegedly cheated a woman from the city of Rs. 21.58 lakh online.


Fraud However, it is learnt that the accused were only conduits engaged by the main accused, said to be Nigerian citizens, to open bank accounts in their names.

The police gave the names of the accused as Lanthan Mavia (34), native of Mizoram, and Coof Boi alias Lian Coof (32), native of Manipur, both of whom lived in Delhi. They allegedly cheated Violet D’Souza the amount after promising her to deliver costly gifts and parcels.  The accused had got in touch with the woman through mobile phone and email and got the amount credited to their bank accounts as processing fee. She lodged a complaint with the Ullal Police on May 31 this year.

Ullal Police Inspector Gopikrishna and Sub-Inspector B. Rajendra and their team apprehended the accused under supervision from Commissioner of Police M. Chandra Sekhar and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) M. Shantharaju. The police said that investigations are making progress.
