Four mobile units for Endo victims at Udupi

Udupi, Aug 21, 2014 :  Speaking at a meeting convened to discuss the status report of Amicus Curiae and the report to be submitted in the High Court over Endosulfan victims by the district administration,   DHO Dr Ramachandra Bairy has announced that plans are chalked out to open  4 mobile units for Endosulfan victims in the district.

Two of these will be in Kundapur and one each in Karkala and Udupi. One mobile unit requires around Rs two lakh as construction cost.   The DHO said problems pertaining to the compensation package is technical and measures are being taken to set right the problems. The survey to identify the Edosulfan victims has been completed in the district and measures are taken to compensate the affected people.


DHO said there are already 1,125 Endosulfan victims in the district and another 13 identified were added to the list. Measures are taken to offer monthly pensions to these newly added victims. There is no dearth of funds for the victims until October end. He said HDFC Bank manager told the monthly compensation package is directly credited to the account of the victims.

Discussion was also held over the possibilities of setting up of day-care centers for the victims. The Revenue department secretary and Social Welfare department secretary will jointly design the plans and submit the report to the government. It was felt that all consideration and support must be given for this cause.
