Udupi, Oct 16, 2015: To mark the completion of three years of the formation of Udupi Catholic Diocese and nomination of Gerald Isaac Lobo as the first Bishop of the diocese, foundation stones for three diocesan projects — a pastoral centre, a minor seminary and a home for retired priests — were laid at Kinnimulky here on Thursday.

FoundationSpeaking as the chief guest, Vinay Kumar Sorake, Urban Development Minister, lauded the project of constructing a home for retired priests as they had served society and dedicated their lives for the benefit of the community. He complimented Dr. Lobo for completing three years as the Bishop of Udupi. He also assured government help for the projects.

In his speech, Dr. Lobo said that during the first three years attempts were made to build the community. The community had come forward to give support to the projects. He recalled his recent visit to Gulf countries and the support that the people of the diocese working in the Gulf countries had assured.

It was they who insisted that the Bishop should start the projects and financial help would follow. He also explained the nature and purpose of these three basic projects.
