Foul smell: Meeting with fish lorry owners soon

Mangaluru, Apr 27, 2019: The city police commissioner responding to serious matters from road users during the weekly phone-in programme, organised at the city police commissionerate office, said fish trucks by discharging wastewater were causing a nuisance to the public.  A meeting of fish transporters will be convened soon to discuss measures on discouraging fish-carrying trucks from causing foul-smell  on the roads in the southern areas of city, Mangaluru Commissioner of Police Sandeep Patil said on April 26, Friday.

The problem is being highlighted by those affected in many phone-in programmes. The Police Department too has been carrying out special drives to prevent truck drivers from discharging the fish waste water on the road. “But there is a need to convince truck owners and ensure that the problem is solved at source,” Patil said.


A lady requested the police commissioner’s intervention as her husband, who is working as a line salesman in a private company, has not been paid his salary for the last seven months. The police commissioner called the ACP of the respective region over the phone and directed the official to take necessary action.

A resident of Sultan Bathery said that there is a need to operate KSRTC buses in Boluru as private bus operators were not ferrying passengers in the area. Women and children have been finding it difficult to return to their homes in the evening. There are no autorickshaws available in the evening. Another resident favoured a service road between Bappanadu temple and Mulki.

A resident from Kadri Kambla said the pedestrians had been facing difficulties while walking across the Kadri Kambla road opposite to Bharat Beedi building due to haphazard parking of vehicles.

A resident from Harekala said that the buses of route number 55 had cut down trips from Harekala to State Bank Circle. A resident from Padil complained about the shortage of route number 37 buses. The passengers have to wait for hours for the buses to arrive, he added.

Complaints on the street vendor menace in Kankanadi, sale of liquor near KSRTC bus stand in Bejai before 6 am, harassment by transgenders, overspeeding motorbikes and faded zebra crossings were raised during the phone-in programme. DCP (Crime and Traffic) Lakshmi Ganesh K was also present.
