Mangalore, Sep 7, 2014: The ‘Forum for Justice’, a plank for like-minded persons to fight corruption, was launched at a formal programme held at Townhall on Saturday, September 6.

Speaking after inaugurating the forum, Justice Santosh Hegde, former Lokayukta of Karnataka said "one cannot expect complete eradication of corruption; but can expect to control the same as corruption has its roots with the evolution of society". "The root causes for corruption have been greed and lack of humanity. Once greed is contained and people are made known that only genuinely acquired wealth would survive, only then corruption could be tamed", he said.

He further said the middle class still support crusade against corruption, but the forum should know to make the best utilisation of the anger in appropriate ways. The younger generation should be involved in the fight against corruption, he said and noted that since 2006, he has spoken at over 740 meetings attended by youngsters.

In his introductory address, forum convener Dayanath Kotian said the members achieved some success in their fight against corruption in the last six months, from when it informally started functioning. Government officials are now afraid of the forum, he said and claimed that it would organise a mammoth students’ rally in Mangalore shortly.

Raveendranath Shanbhag, known for his crusade for consumer rights said the numbers would not do any miracle and cited the example of Anna Hazare’s crusade against corruption and how the number of people present at meetings dwindled. Giving examples from his own way of fight against red-tapism and corruption, he said the problem could be solved through demonstration, through widespread campaign and such other means. He gave the examples of Jyotsna Bakery case of Manipal and that of Akku and Leela to support his argument.
