Mangaluru, Mar 16, 2015 :  Speaking to media on March 15, Samyuktha Muslim Jamath Dakshina Kannada district president and former mayor K Ashraf has demanded the government to cancel the licence of the English medium school with immediate effect after the school’s van driver is said to have  sexually abused a three-and-a-half-years-old girl in Ullal police station limits recently.

ashrafHe said that according to media reports, the accused was arrested as the medical report had confirmed the assault.  Lady Goschen Hospital should give a copy of the report to the child’s parents.

The child is out of danger, but it is under treatment, he added.

Community issue has no place, but it is about the future of the child. If the government fails to act against the school within two-three days, it will have to face serious huge protests, Ashraf said.

It is unfortunate that no public representative has condemned the incident.  The mother of the child said that her daughter who attends the school (8.30 am to 12.30 pm), which is five kilometres away from home was 10 minutes late on the day of the incident.   She was the last child to be dropped on the Thokkottu- Kotekar route.

The child complained of pain in her pelvis and accused Madhukar Shetty of doing something to her in the vehicle.  As the child was unusal,  the mother called up the school at around 3 pm to ask whether anything had happened to the child at the school.  The school authorities asked her to inquire with the helper. The helper, however, said that nothing was observed amiss.

The school authorities tried to disuade the girl’s mother from  complaining to the police or visiting the school it would affect the institution’s image.

"The school management and teachers lacked any considetration towards the child. Instead of cooperating with the police and instilling faith among parents, they were not traceable anywhere." Ashraf said.

It was stated that there was lack of transparency in police investigation and there was no cooperation from the school.  All India Beary Council Vice President Hameed Kudroli, Madoor Jumma Masjid president Azees Madoor, social activist Haneef Haji, C M Haneef, and father of the girl were present among others.
