Former Councillor Ramdas Nayak dies before receiving award in the capital

Udupi, Oct 3, 2015: As per reports,  Social activist and former Councillor Ramadas Nayak died of cardiac arrest in the national capital Oct 1,  just hours before the prestigious Citizen Integration Peace Society Award was conferred on him. He was 58.


Former Councillor Ramdas Nayak Nayak, a resident of Parkala was to receive the award at Chankayapuri Teen Murthi Bhavan in New Delhi at 5 pm.


Though Nayak, who was put up at Kannada Sangha building left for the programme, he collapsed as he boarded the car.


He was rushed to Saftharjung hospital, where he breathed his last.  The award was received by Kamalaksha Prabhu, who had accompanied Nayak to Delhi.

A loyal member of Congress party, Nayak was in the first administrative board of Udupi Town municipal Council. Despite being a hotelier by profession, he was actively involved in social work in and around Udupi region.  He is survived by his wife and two sons.
