Mangaluru, Dec 12, 2019:   Former minister U T Khader and MLA, accused the Central government of bringing in the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) to divert the attention of the citizens from the failure of the BJP-led Central government on December 11, Wednesday.  “The bill is against the principles enshrined in the Constitution,” he stressed.

He added  that the CAB has violated Article 14, which guarantees equality before the law. “It is against what Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation, and Dr B R Ambedkar had dreamt as the future of India. The BJP is engaging in fascist rule in the country,” he alleged.

“The bill is also against the unity and integrity of the nation. The government should withdraw the bill. The Centre should explain the purpose of bringing in such a controversial bill,” he demanded.

Stating that the CAB is also against the Preamble of the Constitution, Khader said, “The BJP is using CAB as an issue for the Lok Sabha elections 2024. To win the election, the BJP has already used all its tactics. They are well aware that the citizens will not vote for the BJP in the name of Pakistan. Hence, it has taken up the issue of Citizenship Amendment Bill.”

He added, “The drive on National Register of Citizens (NRC) was carried out in Assam on the directions of the Supreme Court. What was the need to extend it to the entire country? Even the BJP leaders who failed to submit documents in Assam do not figure in the NRC. Does this mean that they are not the citizens of India?”

Further, he said that the National Population Register will commence from April. “All the households should give their details clearly. When the government gets complete details of its citizens through the Register, then what was the need to extend NRC to the entire country,” he asked.

To a query on the resignation of KPCC President Dinesh Gundu Rao and CLP leader Siddaramaiah, Khader said, “The defeat in the by-election is not only of the Congress. It is the defeat of the people, who will lose and realise their mistakes in the next three years.”

The legislator also said, “A large number of party workers in Dakshina Kannada will join the ‘Bharat Bachao Rally’ under the leadership of AICC president Sonia Gandhi at the Ram Lila Maidan in New Delhi on December 14. The rally is being organised against the failure of the Central government. At least 50 party workers from each block Congress will participate in the rally.”
