Foreign-returned Bhatkal residents to be shifted to quarantine facilities

Mangaluru, March 30, 2020:  Uttara Kannada district administration has decided to shift all those Bhatkal residents who have returned from abroad after March 15 to quarantine facilities in Bhatkal town to avoid further family contacts, according to Deputy Commissioner of Uttara Kannada K. Harish Kumar.

“All primary contacts identified are already in government quarantine facilities,” he said in a communique on Sunday.

All people must cooperate to maintain social distancing to avoid further spread of COVID-19, he said.

In all, six persons from Bhatkal have tested positive so far. All of them have been shifted out of Bhatkal town for treatment at the Indian Navy’s Patanjali Hospital in Karwar.

A 65-year-old person who had arrived from Dubai via Mumbai airport on March 17 had reached Bhatkal on March 19. After he was admitted to hospital on March 21, his wife (aged 60) and two daughters (aged 22 and 31) were tested positive on March 28.

Of the remaining patients, a 22-year-old person from Dubai had reached Bhatkal via Goa airport on March 20. He was admitted to hospital on March 23.

A 45-year-old person had arrived in the town from Dubai via Mangaluru airport on March 21 and was admitted to the hospital the same day.
