Food stuff profiteering will be tackled seriously, Minister Khader

Mangaluru, July 08, 2016: Stating he came across an instance where tur dal with hiked ’priced’ tagged at Rs 315/kg was being sold at Rs 200/kg citing a Grand Ramzan discount, U T Khader said that any trader who resorts to such cheating or resorts to profiteering will be dealt with sternly.


Minister Khade...To check hoarding as directed by the Union government, the department has framed fresh rules under the Essential Commodities Act wherein no retailer in shops/ malls will be allowed to stock more than 50 quintals of tur dal, edible oil and sugar at any point in time.

Wholesalers in village will be permitted to stock 1,000 quintals and those in city 2,000 quintals of these products in their godowns, he said.


The department will seize any amdditional stocks during surprise checks.
