Floating jetty proposed at fisheries port: MLA Vedavyas Kamath

Mangaluru, Oct 7, 2019: Mangaluru South MLA D Vedavyas Kamath has said that a proposal has been submitted to the government with regard to construction of a floating concrete jetty  at Mangaluru Port.

The MLA who spoke after visiting the fisheries port in Mangaluru , said this would be the first such project in Karnataka and is intended to be constructed at a cost of Rs 6.25 crores.  Keeping in mind the interests of the fishermen, the jetty will be 60 meter long and six meter wide and one meter thick. It will weigh 180 tonnes and will have a weight bearing capacity of 360 tonnes, he added.


Floating jetty


The floating jetty will be capable of handling tempos which can go right upto the fisheries boat to load fish into the vehicle, he said.

The proposed jetty will have water and electricity connection and will be floating in accordance to water level. As  the jetty will be constructed elsewhere  and installed in the place, the  fishermen will face no problem, he said and added that the works would commence as soon as the government approves the same.

Milindar Prabhu  who designed the jetty, BJP leaders Premanand Shetty, Sanjay Prabhu and fishermen leaders were present.
