New Delhi, July 24, 2019: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation has suspended the licence of Air India Express pilot Captain Pravin Tumram for a year in connection with the recent incident wherein the flight IX 384 had veered off the runway at the Mangaluru International Airport. Luckily all passengers of the aircraft had escaped unhurt in the mishap wherein the tyres of the plane had got stuck in the sludge.
As per the findings of the DGCA the approach of the aircraft in the final stages was unstable and its speed was also high. The DGCA also found that the touchdown of the plane was also not at the recommended spot and was 900 meters beyond the mark..
The incident evoked memories of the air tragedy at the MIA on May 22, 2010 when an Air India Express flight from Dubai overshot the table top runway and plunged into a gorge, killing 152 passengers.
