While four of them are residing at Mathikere one boy is from Yeshwanthpur, all Std IX students of a private school in Mathikere. The lifeguards have handed over the children to Panambur police and the parents of the children have been informed.

Vasanth Salian, life guard head at the beach said: We noticed these five children between 8.30am and 9am on the beach. We got suspicious and I asked one from our team to talk to them. The boys said that they had come to one of the boy’s aunt’s house and she had left them at the beach. When asked the number of the relative, they refused saying the aunt will come and take them back.

Sensing something was amiss; Vasanth quizzed two boys separately and knew they were not telling the truth. Later, he got hold of the tab one of them was using and when he turned off the flight mode, he started getting calls from frantic parents. Vasanth informed the parents about the boys being in Mangaluru and said he would hand them over to the police, so that they could get custody of the boys from them when they arrive.

Vasanth said one of the boy’s with whom he had interacted was very smart for his age and seemed to be the leader of this misguided operation. Regarding the reasons given for their allegedly running away from home was implausible, Vasanth said.
