Mumbai, Aug 04, 2015: Five among the 12 persons who died in the tragic building collapse in Thane late night on August 3, Monday are said to be hailing from Bantwal.
The five members of a family having its roots in Bantwal, were residing in this building since four decades. The deceased have been identified as Ramachandra Panduranga Bhat (62), Meera Panduranga Bhat (58), Subraya (Subhash) Bhat (56), Ruchitha Bhat (25) and Rashmi Ramachandra Bhat (25). The ancestral house of the family is located behind the Shree Venkatramana Temple at Bantwal in the past.
The half century old three-storied building named Krishna Nivas was dilapidated and in a dangerous state and the noticed served to the building owner by the Thane Municipal Corporation to vacate had served no purpose, resulting in the tragedy, say locals.
