Fishermen picket Fisheries Dy. Director’s office demanding subsidized kerosene

Mangalore, Oct 20, 2014: Members of the Dakshina Kannada Gillnet and Country Boat Fishermen’s Organisation picketed the office  of the Fisheries Deputy Director at the old port in Mangalore on October 20, Monday demanding release of subsidized  kerosene oil for fisheries boats.

The protestors alleged that the government was cheating the fishermen by not distributing the subsidized kerosene despite announcing  sanction of 300 litres of kerosene for country boats.

Ali Hassan, President of the DK District Gillnet Association, Satish Kotian, its Honorary President, BK Vasudev, President of Karavali Nadadoni Sangha, BA Basheer, General Secretary and others were present.

There are around 2500 fishing boats in DK district and 6000 boats in Udupi district.
