Fisherman death case : Mogaveeras stage protest outside Ullal station

Mangaluru, April 14, 2016 :  The suspected murder of  fisherman Raju Kotian (41) of  Mogaveerapatna has invited the ire of members of the Mogaveera community, who on April 13, Wednesday placed the body of Raju in front of the Ullal Police Station and staged a protest.

It may be recalled here that Raju  was  found dead on April 12, Tuesday. As his face was severely bruised after being reportedly hit by some heavy object, it was suspected to be a case of murder. The villagers of Mogaveerapatna including a large number of women had gheraoed the Ullal police station on the day of the murder itself demanding the arrest of the killers.

On Wednesday, the residents of the locality   and members of the community  numbering nearly one thousand staged a protest in front of the Ullal police station alleging inaction in several earlier cases of atrocities against Mogaveera community. The body was earlier taken out in a procession.

The Ullal Mogaveera Samaj President Bharat Kumar also demanded a compensation of Rs 50 lakh to the family  of  Raju which is living in poverty conditions.

 Police    maintained a strict vigil by deploying additional forces to avert any untoward incident.

Meanwhile, police who had taken one person into custody in connection with the incident on Tuesday have arrested four more suspects on Wednesday.

Khader visits hospital : State Health and Family Welfare Minister UT Khader visited the hospital in Derlakatte where Raju’s body was kept and paid his last respects. He informed that  he has directed the police to form a special team to probe the case and requested people of Ullal to maintain peace.
