Mangaluru, Dec 11, 2019: The Fisheries Department in order to conserve marine resources, has fixed the size limit of catchable fish. Fishermen who catch fish of size which is lesser than the prescribed size limit will have to face punishment.
Most of the tiny fish netted by fishermen are sent to the fish meal plants. Moreover, the catch of tiny fish also would lead to fish scarcity.
The size limit fixed for some of the fish is as follows.
Mackarel- 14 cm, Sardine- 10 cms, Kingfish- 20 cm, black pomfret-17 cm, silver fish 11.3 cm, Pink perch 12 cm, white pomfret- 13 cm, silver fish - 8 cm, Croacker Fish -17 cm, Squid 11 cm.
Those fishermen not adhering to the rule will face action under Karnataka Sea Fishing Regulation Act.
