Fish lorry drivers on strike; protest against ’harassment’ by public and police

Mangaluru, Dec 12, 2019:   Drivers of fish transporting lorries are  observing a strike on December 12, Thursday alleging harassment by public as well as the police for various reasons. They even staged a protest in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office.

The Mangaluru Port Fish Lorry Drivers’ Association affiliated to the CITU and the  Karavali Karnataka Drivers’ Association have jointly organised the protest wherein the agitators  demanded   provision to release the waste water from the fish lorries close by the National Highways in DK, Udupi and Uttara Kannada districts.

They also demanded ane end to the   acts of intercepting fish lorries, attacking the drivers as well as snatching their cash and mobile phones on the pretext that the fish waste water that   fall on the road from the lorries cause accidents.

Even the police action was  inconveniencing fish lorry drivers, they alleged. Fishing industry in the region has been affected by today’s strike by the fish lorry drivers.
