First phase of Pulse Polio drive on Jan 17

Mangaluru, Jan 2, 2015 :  The first phase of Pulse Polio immunisation programme of the year will be held on January 17. As usual children below five years will be administered polio  vaccine on that day  by the District Health and Family Welfare Department. The next round of Pulse Polio will be held on February 21.


 Pulse Polio driveGiving information in this regard, Dr Ramakrishna Rao, District Health and Family Welfare Officer  said the last polio case reported from Karnataka  was in 2007 while in Dakshina Kannada the last Polio case was reported in 1999.


He said India has been declared Polio Free on March 3,2014.


He said on January 17, Pulse Polio drops will be administered to a total of 1,68,947 children in DK district  through 921 vaccination centres, 16 transit units and eight mobile teams.  As many as 3,828 staff and 192 supervisors have been entrusted with the pulse polio drops  administering jobs, he added.

Mission Indra Dhanush 2015 :

Rao also informed that the Fourth and final round of Indra Dhanush programme wherein vaccination  is provided for children two years for whooping cough , tetanus, polio, TB, measles, diphtheria and Hepatitis B, will be held  on January 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 11 and 12. Dhanurvayu TT vaccination is also provided for pregnant woman during these days.
