First ever 2 day state level ’Ayush Utsav’ in City on November 22

Mangalore, Oct 12, 2014: The Karnataka Ayurvedic and Unani Practitioner’s Board will hold Ayush Utsav, the first ever two-day state level meet of Ayush practitioners in the state at Nehru Maidan here from November 22 under the theme ’Ayush in Rural Service.’ Nearly 10,000 delegates are expected to attend the conference that will also have an arogya expo featuring 200 stalls, a health check up by experts in respective systems of medicine among others.

 

Dr Sathyamoorthy Bhat, president of the Board told media here October 12. With 70% of AYUSH doctors practicing in rural areas and 30% in cities, a scenario that is reversed in case of allopathic doctors, it makes sense for the government to utilise their services more in rural health care. Through the theme, the meet will strive to impress on authorities concerned to give AYUSH doctors a greater say in managing state’s health systems, he said.

Lectures and discussions  will cover  rural health challenges in India, role of AYUSH practitioners in rural health care, approach to patients in general practice, problems faced by AYUSH practitioners in rural practice, he said. In addition, leading doctors from the above health systems will share their success stories with the delegates and there will be hands on demonstration of certain treatment procedures for the benefit of all concerned, he explained.

Dr Thimappa Shettigar, registrar of the board said there are nearly 800 AYUSH doctors on government rolls and slightly more than an equal number with central scheme - National Health Mission and ’against posts’, that is AYUSH doctors manning posts reserved for those with MBBS degree. The state as a whole has around 42,000 AYUSH doctors including 3,000-odd registered with the Karnataka Homeopathy Board, Bangalore. This  meet will be useful to the relevant medical fraternity.
