Fire engulfs vast tracts of open land at Bondel

Mangalore, Feb 1, 2014 : Vast tracts of open land opposite the St Lawrence Church at Bondel in Mangalore caught fire on February 1, Saturday. The dry grass and shrubs that covered the land further aggravated the situation with the fire spreading very fast.

 

Though the Fire tender vehicles rushed to the spot after being informed by locals, even they had a tough time as they could not reach the entire land. Locals also  helped the  fire  service personnel by bringing water in buckets and vessels to  put out the fire.

 The fire had spread to nearly 15 acres out of the total 40 acres of vacant land reportedly owned by  Cardinal Energy Company based in Mumbai.

The cause of the fire has not yet been ascertained.
