Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, Jan 10, 2019: With social media making deep inroads into daily life, people have to play a positive role in curbing negative and destructive news, thereby reinforcing the Brand Mangaluru concept, Deputy Commissioner S. Sasikanth Senthil said here on Wednesday.

He was participating in the Meet-the-Press programme organised by Mangaluru Press Club, Dakshina Kannada Union of Working Journalists, and Patrika Bhavana Trust.

The Brand Mangaluru campaign, initiated by the journalists’ union, is an effort to restore the image the region had a decade ago, Mr. Senthil said adding that the government alone cannot fight the odds.

While the advent of social media has empowered the common man to create and share news and events, vested interests as well as criminal elements are on the prowl on this platform spreading misinformation.

If people do not counter these false propaganda with positive news and happenings, they should realise that such incidents might happen right in front of their doors some day, the Deputy Commissioner said.

Union president Srinivas Nayak Indaje, general secretary Ibrahim Adkasthala, club president Annu Mangaluru, and trust president Anand Shetty were present.
