Fate of Kambala hanging fire again

Mangaluru, Nov 5, 2017: Even as the first Kambala of the season slated to be held on November 11  is keenly awaited by the  Kambala lovers,  the  Supreme Court taking up for hearing the   appeal filed by the People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) against permitting Kambala has come as a shock.

The Supreme Court which began hearing the case on November 4, Saturday has adjourned the hearing to November 6, Monday.

 
PETA representative Manilal Vallikatte had  filed an appeal in the Supreme Court on September 23 alleging that the ordinance  permitting Kamala was  against the law. The case is being heard by a three member bench including Chief Justice Deepak Mishra, Justice  A M Kanvilkar and Justice D Y Chandrachud.

The President of India had  already issued an ordinance permitting Kambala and a Gazette Notification has also been issued on August 20 and the same will be effective till January 20. The Kambala Bill is already approved by  the Cabinet and will be tabled during the Belagavi session.

The Kambala Time Table too is ready and the first event   Vijayotsaha Kambala is slated to be held at Moodbidri on November 11. The fate of the Kambala will now depend on the  decision of the Supreme Court.

Meanwhile the Vijaya Vikrama Kambala Samithi of Uppinangady has decided to file an Affidavit in the Supreme Court in support of Kambala.
