Farmers must strive to increase paddy yield : Minister Krishna Bhairegowda

Brahmavar, July 11, 2016 : Paddy is not just a food and source of income for people of coastal and Malnad Karnataka, but also a symbol of our life and culture, said State Agriculture Minister Krishna Bhairegowda.

He was speaking at a huge campaign regarding mechanised paddy cultivation organised at the paddy fields in Guthha village of Brahmavar on July 10, Sunday under the aegis of the Department of Agriculture and Horticulture  and various orgher organisations.

Stating that the agricultural field faced shortage of workers, the minister said problems are natural, but farmers should try to reduce cost of production by increasing paddy yield.

Shobha Karandlaje, MP of Udupi-Chikkamagaluru released a CD on mechanised paddy cultivation. Regretting the use of excessive  pesticides in farming activity, she urged farmers to go in for organic farming.

Pramod Madhwaraj, State Minister for Youth Services and Fisheries presided over the faction. Dinaker Babu, Udupi ZP Chief, released a technical handout for farmers.

 K Pratapchandra Shetty, MLC, Sheela K Shetty,  ZP Vice President,  Nalini Pradeep Rao, Taluk Panchayat President, Dr M.K, Naika, Research Director of Shivamogga Agricultural and Horticultural University, Dr C Vasudevappa, Vice Chancellor and others were present.
