Mangaluru, Aug 11, 2017: At a programme organised under the banner of ’Alvarondige Naavu’ (We are with Alva), by prominent persons of various fields at Town Hall in the city, Yakshagana scholar Dr Prabhakar Joshi on Aug 10, Thursday said a ’Goebbelsian propaganda’ (where a lie is repeated a thousand times and converted to truth) against Alva’s Education Foundation chairman Dr M Mohan Alva, by creating a picture placing false suspicion  in connection with the mysterious death of Kavya, a class 10 student of Alva’s institutions.  Dr. Joshi attributed a methodology of incidents reported in the society in the last two decades, where people are becoming judgmental much before the case reaches its logical end.

Equating the ongoing incidents after suspected suicide of Kavya with the rapid developments that took place after the killing of rationalist Prof M M Kalaburgi, Joshi regretted, "The death was portrayed as the act of particular people, linking it with the death of rationalists Govind Pansare in Maharashtra and others. Though the CCTV footage was available in the case of killing of Kalaburgi, nothing could emerge."

Taking a veiled dig at vested interests who target certain people, Joshi wanted to know why the same people hesitate to apologise even when their claims are disproved in later stages. Strongly opposing bids to belittle Alva, Joshi listed the good deeds of the latter and said that he immensely contributed to the field of education by turning Moodbidri into a base of culture, tradition and humanity.

Brigadier (Retd) I N Rai credited Alva of eradicating the myth that Dakshina Kannada lags behind in its contribution to defence forces. Apart from playing a role in 27 candidates from the district selected to national defence academy, he played host to thousands of recruits recently, during a recruitment camp, he added.  He also suspected the deliberate attempt to malign the image of the institute, whose popularity has transcended all bounds.

Dancer Chandrashekhar Navada, who is a part-time teacher at Alva’s institutions, gave due credit to Alva for giving equal recognition to different forms of art. Though there are limited entries in adoption category, he breaks his own rules, not to disappoint the aspiring students, he said.  Earlier, a minute’s silence was observed to condole the death of Kavya.

Former minister B Nagaraj Shetty, patron of sports Sadanand Shetty, Kannada Sahitya Parishat, district unit president Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, patrons of art P Nityananda Rao, Ganesh Somayyaji, athlete Sahana Kumari and others were present amidst a huge gathering of youth and public.
