Fake WhatsApp Message: Students rush to MCC office to claim cash rewards; get fooled

Mangaluru, May 29, 2015: Several students of Mangaluru were on Cloud 9 as messages made rounds on WhatsApp in past few days about an offer by Mangaluru City Corporation to toppers in recent examination.

The message said that MCC was giving away cash prizes of Rs. 10000 for the students who scored above 75% and Rs. 25000 to students above 85% in PU examinations. The message also said that requisite form to apply for cash rewards were available at MCC office.

Students above 75% and 85% immediately rushed to MCC office and made enquiries only to find that the message was fake. Mayor Jacintha Vijay Alfred has clarified that it was a fake message.

The  WhatsApp message had gone almost viral though the harsh reality is that it would be a mirage to think that the MCC which itself is struggling to collect taxes from citizens, would make  such an offer.
