Mangaluru, Oct 12, 2015:  It is reported that Ganesh Nayak, founder of Mangaluru Bicycle Club, was returning to the city from Panambur after a ride with fellow cyclists on Sunday morning. The riders noticed a mini goods vehicle parked right in the middle of the service road below Kuloor flyover, obstructing traffic.

facebook_As the driver was not in the vehicle,  Nayak spoke to two persons standing near it and asked them to remove the vehicle. The two rudely replied and abused the riders. A few minutes later, a bus and few other vehicles behind the unattended vehicle began honking. The vehicle was then moved by the driver.

Nayak posted pictures of the incident on his Facebook account and shared the post with Mangaluru City Traffic Police. Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Uday M. Nayak was also intimated of the incident via Whatsapp.  Post on Facebook about the alleged misconduct of personnel of the firm handling waste in the city led to the Mangaluru City Corporation issuing notice to the firm.

Later in the day, Mangaluru City Corporation’s Environment Engineer Madhu Manohar, in-charge of waste disposal, commented on the post and identified the two persons  and the vehicle as those related to Antony Waste Handling Corporation.

Manohar told media that a notice would be issued seeking explanation over the reported conduct of the persons.  The police would also seek explanation from the firm for alleged misconduct. He promised action against those involved.

Antony Waste Handling Corporation’s project head Haridas Salian said the driver had stopped the vehicle to have tea. He said the firm’s two executives explained this to bystanders and sought a few minutes to move away the vehicle.  Salian claimed the conductor of a city bus kicked the parked vehicle breaking its external rear-view mirror, which made the incident unpleasant. The altercation lasted for about three minutes, at which point when the driver returned and moved away the vehicle. He regretted the problem caused by the firm’s driver.
