FIR against agency : Gulf recruitment

Mangaluru, May 30 2019: An FIR was registered at the Mangaluru North police station under Section 27 of the Immigration Act against the city-based Manikya Associates Manpower Consultancy for job recruitment without valid licence.

The agency has been recruiting youngsters for an overseas firm.

As many as 35 people recruited by the agency on behalf of Aspect Petroleum Services were stranded in Kuwait as they had not been paid salary for many months and their passports were confiscated by the company.

Mangaluru City Police Commissioner Sandeep Patil had directed sub inspectors of various police stations to conduct inspection on such firms that have been recruiting youth for overseas companies without a valid licence.

Agency denies : Manikya Associates, in a press release, denied any role and declared that it had acted as a bridge between the candidates and Mumbai-based Hawk Consultancy Private Limited that had conducted the interview. The officials at the Indian Embassy in Kuwait had decided to intervene in the matter and facilitate the release of the 35 people. A discussion was also conducted between representatives from the Kuwait chapter of Institution of Engineers and Indian Embassy Deputy Secretary Shibi U S in Kuwait.

Mohandas Kamath, office-bearer of the Institution of Engineers Association, Kuwait chapter, said that there is a positive response from the Indian Embassy in Kuwait and some administrative procedures needed to be carried out for the release of the stranded youth.

Mangaluru South MLA Vedavyas Kamath, besides ensuring that the youth were provided food and water, had also spoken over the phone to the External Affairs Ministry.
