Mangaluru, Nov 19, 2017: A degree college student allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself, after realising that he would not be able to marry someone he fell in love with on Facebook.

suicideThe deceased is said to be Deekshith, a resident of Bellare in Savanooru. He was 21. He is survived by his mother, a beedi worker. Deekshith was the only ray of hope for his mother. Police said has left a four-page death note narrating his plight. He used to work as a mason, when he got leave, to earn a livelihood. His father died a few years ago.

He met the girl, an engineering student from Mysuru, sometime ago on the social networking site, though the exact time-frame is not known. They became friends and exchanged phone numbers. Their friendship grew over a period of time, and eventually the two got into a relationship.

As the two continued their relationship over phone, they realised that their relationship would not have a fairy-tale ending, and decided to split. However, according to the police, they continued to stay in touch, and exchanged pleasantries.

However, between 2.30 pm and 6 pm, on November 16, Deekshith felt uneasy about the way his relationship was heading, and committed suicide. He wrote a four-page death note in which he mentioned the reason for his taking the extreme step. He said no one was responsible for his death. He hanged himself from a cashew tree near his house.

Mental agitation: Police said Deekshith was mentally unstable, and had attempted to commit suicide a couple of times earlier. An official told TOI that Deekshith swallowed sleeping pills on a occasion, and consumed poison in another, to end his life.

According to the police, the girl in question is still not aware that Deekshith is no more, as they only conversed over phone, and he wished to hide the matter from her, so that she moves on in life.
