Excise officials arrest 4, seize 458 sacks of rotten jaggery

Mangalore, March 9: Excise officials, acting on a tip off, raided four separate go-downs at Court Road, Bunder, and Farangipete and confiscated more than 22,900kgs of rotten jaggery filled in 458 sacks on March 8, Monday.

Four people have been arrested in the raid. The offenders intended to use the jaggery to prepare illicit liquor. The arrested as Sudeer Valke, Nisar, Krishnappa, and Damodar Shenoy.

The excise officials say that the confiscated jaggery is worth Rs 7,50,000. The sub inspector of the excise department is organizing a probe into the issue.

The raid was conducted by K Bheemappa, the joint commissioner, department of excise.
