Mangaluru, Sep 28,2017 : The Excise Department would lay special emphasis on operations aimed at checking the menace of drugs among students, said State Excise Minister R B Timmapura. He was speaking to reporters here on September 28, Thursday after participating in a review meeting during his maiden visit to the city after taking charge as Excise Minister.
The Minister said steps would be taken to strengthen a district level implementation committee of the Department which will hold talks with principals and school managements and will strive to help de-addict students who have fallen victim to the menace.
Mere collection of revenue is not the objective of the Excise Department, he said adding it was also involved in programmes of societal concern.
The Excise Department has initiated steps to fill vacant posts in the state and the recruitment process is underway, he informed.
The Department intends to collect a revenue of Rs 18,050 crore during the current year of which Rs 9,250 crore is already collected, the Minister further stated.
