Mangalore, March 31: MLA N. Yogish Bhat, who is also the deputy speaker of the state assembly, said that the Government Lady Goschen Hospital will get a facelift worth Rs. 18 crore within a year. Reportedly, Raghavan Naidu, a rich philanthropist from Andhra Pradesh, will provide all the Rs. 18 crore required to renovate Lady Goschen Hospital.

The new building of Lady Goschen Hospital will be constructed on a vacant plot of 1.5 lakh square feet adjacent the current premises of the hospital. Construction is expected to commence at the end of April. In May 2012, the new hospital will be ready for inauguration.

A number of attempts have been made in the past few years to upgrade, renovate, and modernize this hospital. The government had been waiting for generous donors to provide funds so that the 100-year-old hospital could be converted into a modern, sophisticated structure.

Raghavan Naidu has established K. R. Keerti Foundation in honor of his late daughter K. R. Keerti, and according to government sources, the government has approved the renaming of this hospital in honor of K. R. Keerti. The name Lady Goschen Hospital will probably no longer be used after a year.
