Ensure CCTV cameras are in working condition - Minister Rai

Mangaluru, September 17, 2015: Chairing a peace committee meeting, ahead of Ganesha festival and Bakrid, at DC’s Office Hall in Mangaluru on Sept 16,  District in-Charge Minister B Ramanath Rai  said that he should not receive any complaints regarding the non-functioning of the CCTV cameras. He further said that those who raised provocative slogans, put up provocative banners or provocative behaviour during the processions, should be apprehended by the police in each police station limits. He directed police department to ensure that CCTV cameras in the district were in working condition so that anti-social elements, who created trouble during the festival season, could be traced soon.

City Commissioner of Police S Murugan said that CRPF and KSRP platoons were placed on standby to patrol the sensitive areas.  Necessary staff have also been deployed to clear traffic congestion during processions, he said and added that peace meetings have been convened at all police stations.

Social Activist Hanumantha Kamath and Vishwa Hindu Parishat Pranta Horata Pramukh Kateel Dinesh Pai opined that anti-cow slaughter law should be implemented effectively during Barkid. While, representatives from Muslim League Mohammed Ismail and others said that the age old religious practices cannot be wished away.  They requested the administration to give protection against those who deliberately obstructed such practices.

Mangaluru South MLA J R Lobo said that religious practices should not be carried out in a manner that disturbed  the members of other communities.

DK DC Adoor B Ibrahim requested the public not to spread rumours through social media and told the people to inform the police in case of any untoward incidents.

Mangaluru North MLA B A Mohiyuddin Bava, SP Dr D Sharanappa, Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer P I Srividya, MCC Mayor Jacintha Vijaya Alfred and Karnataka State Social Welfare Board Chairperson Divyaprabha Gowda and MUDA Commissioner Ibrahim Kodijal were present.
