Enmur Koti Chennayya Adi Garadi to host Nemotsava on 22nd March

Mangaluru, March 14, 2016:  Sri Nagbrahma Koti Chennayya Adi Baidarkala Garadi, Enmur will be hosting the annual Nemotsava celebrations on Tuesday, 22nd March.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Announcing this at a media conference on Sunday, Kattabeedu Ramakrishna Shetty, the hereditary administrator of the shrine said the preparatory rituals will commence on 15th March with two more rituals on 20th March and 21st March respectively.  The final main Nemotsava will take place on 22nd March, he said. 

Sri Nagbrahma Koti Chennayya Adi Baidarkala Garadi is the original Koti-Chennayya shrine situated at Enmur, a remote village in Sullia taluk.  

 

“Adi Baidarkala Garadi is the final resting place of the legendary folk heroes Koti and Chennayya and their graves are situated here. Nearly all 250 other garadis of this region are inspired by this shrine,” he said, adding that the annual Nemotsava attracts huge turnout and nearly 25,000 devotees consume prasadam meals on the day. 

Briefing reporters on the history and heritage of the shrine, Ramakrishna Shetty said Koti and Chennayya are legendary twin and warriors who lived about 450 years back. Following their tragic death, the land lord and feudal chieftain Parumale Ballal had built the shrine and maintained it, until the responsibility was passed on to Shetty’s own family many generations back. Shetty said he has been functioning as the hereditary administrator of the shrine since 2004. 

“Despite the great heritage of this shrine and the fact that Koti-Chennayya are highly venerated by the people of this region, government has taken no interest in extending any support to us. This is a very remote area and we do not even have good roads to reach this place. Though we have made many representations before ministers, elected representatives and officials, they seem to be least bothered about helping us,” Shetty rued.  

Dr. U. P. Shivanand, Editor and Publisher of Sudhi Group of Publications, Puttur; Manohar Prasad, eminent journalist and chief of News Bureau of Udayavani, Mangalore and Kaenya Ravindranath Shetty, a three time trustee of Sri Kukke Subrahmanya Temple were felicitated on the occasion.

Jagannath Shetty Bala, President of Dakshna Kannada Working Journalists Union,  N. G. Lokanath Rai, Bhaskar Rai, Dayanand Payyade, Ashok Suvarna, producer of Koti Chennayya Kannada TV serial and its director Chandrahasa Alva  were present on the occasion.
