Endosulfan affected girl Shruthi braves all odds ; to pursue medical course

Kasargod, July 3, 2015 : An Endosulfan affected girl from Kasargod district has braved all odds and is now all set to realise her dreams of becoming a doctor. T Shruthi is the girl who has now secured admission to a medical college and is bubbling with confidence and enthusiasm.

Her dreams of pursuing medical education  has been  made possible, thanks to the assistance of Dr  YS Mohan Kumar,  Punarnava Trust and other organisations. Shruthi has  succeeded in the CET (Medical)  conducted by Karnataka government and has now secured admission to the  Government Homeo Medical College in Bengaluru.

When Shruthi was a child,  her photograph  with her crippled right leg,  her right hand where there was a wide gap after the first two  fingers  and her  four fingered   left hand, had attracted the attention of the world while also  highlighting eh horrific consequences of Endosulfan. This image of Shruthi had also made Brazil  ban Endosulfan for the very first time.

When Shruthi was just three, her  mother Meenakshi who too was affected by Endosulfan  had died of cancer. Meanwhile, her father Taranath Rao, a labourer and aunty Revathi struggled hard to bring up Shruthi   and also get her treatment.

Meanwhile, Dr Mohan guided Shruthi like his own daughter and taught her to hold the pen using the four fingers of her left hand. He even assisted in getting an artificial limb  for her  and boosted her morale and confidence.

At the age of eight Shruthi was admitted to the Padre School  and used to trek a distance of eight kms  along with her father to and fro school. It was then she  nurtured a desire to e a doctor like Dr Mohan Kumar and serve the people.

She passed SSLC with A+ marks in three subjects. Later she pursued her Plus Two course in Mulleria Government Vocational Higher Secondary School.  She then appeared for the CET with assistance from Endosulfan Victims  Sports  Aids group.
Presently,  Shruthi who is residing in Mulleria along  with her  husband Jagadish, a bus employee will be leaving for Bengaluru next week .

Her family which has somehow managed to pay her fees for the first semester, has now sought assistance from the DC for her further education.
