Mangaluru, Jan 13, 2015: NR Madhava Menon, a renowned jurist and Honorary Professor of the International Bar Association Continuing Legal Education Chair ant NLSIU, Bengaluru has said that the need of the hour is for a multi-disciplinary approach on legal issues.
Speaking after inaugurating a four-day workshop on Consumer Protection at SDM Law College in the city on January 12, he said there should be a change in mindset of law practitioners. He also stressed the need for them to stay updated and also take up continuing legal education.
Pointing out that foreign investors in India always wanted arbitration in a foreign land like Hong Kong or Singapore, he said this was mainly due to the failure of India to settle cases through mediation on a priority basis.
Though it is intended to settle at least 50 per cent of civil disputes through mediation that has not been the case, he said. He further emphasised the need to set up Grama Nyayalayas or village courts.
