In a press conference, Javadekar said, "We will include the whole story of Emergency in the curriculum. Children should know the reality of that time. That is why the Emergency period is considered to be the second freedom struggle."Calling the day as ’the day of democracy’ and the efforts by the then government at the Centre as attack on the Constitution, he added, "The journalists and other leaders defeated the attack on the Constitution and that is why today should be celebrated as ’the day of democracy’ and it’s a day of safeguarding of democracy.

A lot of torture measures were taken up. People at that time defeated the conspiracy to end the freedom that was won by freedom fighters."Earlier today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, "We are not observing black day (Emergency) just to criticise the Congress, we want to make the youth of today aware of what happened during that period of time."On the intervening night of June 25-26, 1975 a National Emergency was officially declared by the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi wherein all civil liberties were curbed.
