Election Commission officials examining RSS leader’s speech

Mangaluru, April 8, 2018: Returning Officer for the Mangaluru Assembly constituency Mahesh Karjagi said here on Saturday that flying squad officials of the Election Commission were examining the speech made by RSS leader Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat at Kairangala, on the outskirts of the city, on Friday to ascertain if it amounted to the violation of the model code of conduct.

Mr. Bhat had addressed those who took part in a hunger strike in protest against theft of a cow and attempts to steal another cow from Amrutadhara Goshala managed by Ramachandrapura Mutt. The mutt seer Raghaveshwara Bharathi was present on the occasion. In his speech, Mr. Bhat had reportedly mentioned about the model code of conduct.

To a question, Mr. Karjagi told presspersons here that the officials were examining the audio and video recordings of the speech to ascertain if there were any derogatory remarks.

A case would be booked if there was a violation of the model code of conduct, he said.
