Elderly woman murder case : Two arrested; jewellery recovered

Karkala, Dec 24, 2019:  Police have arrested two persons in connection with the case wherein an elderly woman from Belman was murdered and her body dumped in a well. Those arrested are Ronald Barboza (45) from Santoor and Steven Dias (22) from Shirva.  Gold ornaments weighing 65 grams and worth Rs 2.25 lakhs have been recovered from the duo. They had  robbed the elderly woman of the gold ornaments before eliminating her.

The deceased is Bharathalakshmi Udupa (68). She was reported missing on December 20. Her body was decomposed when it was found in a well in Kalya village two days later.

 The  well belonged to a woman whose house remained unoccupied most of the time. The body was noticed when the owner of the house had arrived to check the pumpset.
