Elderly eve injured as house wall collapses at Suterpete

Mangalore, July 9, 2013:  The rear wall and roof of a house at Sutarpete near Valencia collapsed on July 7, Sunday midnight injuring an elderly woman. Luckily six others who were in the house escaped unhurt.

 

The injured woman Umavathi (70) was hospitalized. Her son Ganesh and daughter Savitha who were also in the house were however unhurt in the mishap.

The family of one Anjaneya including his wife and two kids who resided in another part of the house also were lucky to escape unhurt. Yet another portion of the house was rented to four bachelors who worked in a fast food outlet and they too returned only after the wall came crashing down.

The family of Anjaneya was shifted to another rented house at Ekkur while the Umavathi family shifted to a relative’s house.

MLA JR Lobo visited the spot and assured help for the area. Appi, Corporator of the area assured that the family will receive Rs 1.5 lakh compensation to reconstruct the house under the 22.75 scheme for SC/ST members.
