Elaborate arrangements made for smooth celebration of Bakrid

Mangaluru, Aug 31,2017 : The district administration has made elaborate arrangements and taken precautions for the smooth celebration of Bakrid on Friday.

Deputy Commissioner K.G. Jagadeesha was quoted in an official release as stating that necessary instructions are given to the concerned to prevent illegal slaughter of cows and camels as well as their illegal transportation.

At the same time, people should not take law into their hands upon coming across illegal slaughter/ transportation and instead inform the jurisdictional police. If public indulge in such activities, stringent action will be initiated against the guilty, the DC said.

He asked the local administrations and the police to make suitable arrangements by placing barricades and similar other things near places of prayer and also make arrangements for traffic movement.

Tahsildars, if necessary, may convene peace committee meetings for the smooth celebration of the festival.

The Mangaluru City Police on Wednesday conducted a route march across the city to instil confidence among people to celebrate Bakrid without any fear as well as to ensure smooth immersion of Ganesh idols.

The march started from the City Police headquarters and moved through Bejai, KPT, Nanthoor, Adyar, Bhagawan Mahaveera Junction, Kankanadi, and Mangaladevi before culminating at the starting point.

The convoy comprised one company of the Rapid Action Force (135 personnel), eight platoons of the Karnataka State Reserve Police (each 20 personnel), 50 City Armed Reserve personnel, one Vajra anti-riot vehicle, and regular city police, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Hanumantharaya.
